International Test Centre for CO 2 Capture Receives National Award
Regina, Saskatchewan - HTC Purenergy today announced the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) has honoured the University of Regina-based team that develops and supports HTC Purenergy’s Carbon Management Solutions. The research group from the International Test Centre (ITC) for CO2 Capture at the University of Regina received the prestigious NSERC “Synergy Innovations Award” last night at a gala banquet in Winnipeg. The award is presented to only one organization each year in Canada.
“We are very proud of the ITC research team for this well deserved honour,” said Lionel Kambeitz, Chairman of HTC Purenergy. “As HTC commercializes much of their work around the world, we are acutely aware of how advanced and innovative their research is in the global context,” said Kambeitz.
The scientific team at the centre have developed and tested new methods to capture and manage carbon dioxide emissions from the flue gases of industrial plants such as coal-fired power generators.
The NSERC “Synergy Innovations Award” specifically cited the level of cooperation between the university and industry as an outstanding example of such collaboration in the Canadian research community.
“Thanks to the outstanding collaborative relationship we have developed, HTC is now exporting the knowledge developed at the ITC to industrial users in Europe, Australia, Asia, and the United States,” said Lionel Kambeitz.
