Overview of the Industry, Issues and Opportunities
Carbon dioxide (CO2) contributes to greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs), which largely come from the production and use of fossil fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas. High CO2 levels are widely believed to contribute to global warming and climate change.
A practical solution for decreasing GHG emissions is Carbon Capture and Storage management (CCS). CCS helps reduce GHG emission by capturing CO2 emissions and storing them in geological formations inside the earth. In some circumstances CO2 can be used to increase oil production (enhanced oil recovery - EOR)
In the U.S. alone, The U.S. Department of Energy (“DOE”) estimates that there is 6,000 industrial plants emitting 3.8 billion tonnes of CO2/yr that could supply 12,000 EOR sites representing 43 billion bbls oil (at current proven on shore recoverable reserves. By using CO2 to increase oil production, North America and other G8 countries could significantly reduce their dependance on foreign oil.
HTC has developed a complete carbon management solution that enables CO2 to be captured, stored and transported for sequestration and to oil fields for EOR. HTC's technologies make CO2 capture and management an economic reality.
